Michael Bennet says the U.S. is being dragged back into public-health fights the country thought it had left behind decades ago.
The Colorado senator called on Trump to rescind his childhood vaccine order and fire HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., arguing the administration’s vaccine policies are undermining established science as diseases like measles surge again.
The U.S. eliminated endemic measles in 2000, but the CDC has reported 3,471 confirmed cases in 2026 as of Sept. 17. Bennet says the country should be debating how to improve health and mental-health care — not relitigating vaccine science that helped control these diseases for decades.
