Chris Cook says his family moved from Kansas to Colorado believing their 11-year-old transgender daughter could grow up with more safety, freedom and respect. Now, he’s speaking out as Colorado voters prepare to decide two ballot measures that would change state policy affecting transgender youth.
Proposition 134 would restrict participation in K-12 and college sports based on biological reproductive characteristics, while Proposition 135 would prohibit surgeries on minors intended to alter biological sex characteristics in response to their sex or gender perception, with certain exceptions.
Both measures are backed by Protect Kids Colorado, a registered issue committee campaigning for their passage. Cook focused his remarks on Prop. 135, arguing that health care decisions involving his daughter should remain with families and medical professionals rather than the government.
