The 15 Flock Safety cameras that were in use across the city by Fort Collins Police Services have been removed, city staff confirmed.
City Manager Kelly DiMartino, in an email to council on June 24, said some Flock cameras in Fort Collins would be removed on July 2, with the rest to be removed on July 7.
July 7 was exactly three weeks after City Council voted to immediately terminate the contract with Flock on June 16.
J Gilmore, spokesperson for Fort Collins Police Services, confirmed their removal in an email to the Coloradoan on July 23.
The cameras had been placed at various locations across the city, mostly along major travel corridors.
What happens next with Flock cameras in Fort Collins?
With the contract canceled, the city and City Council are now working on creating an overarching surveillance policy, which will guide any future decisions about the city’s use of automated license plate reader cameras.
A council work session on the surveillance policy is set for the next meeting, at 6 p.m. July 28 in City Hall, 300 Laporte Ave. Council meetings are also broadcast live or available on demand on FCTV.
