If you’ve ever found yourself at the airport but have forgotten to bring your Colorado driver’s license or ID, it won’t be a problem again as long as you have the new myColorado Mobile Driver License saved in the myColorado app.
This new feature means you can use the app on a mobile device to provide your proof of identity at TSA security checkpoints at Denver International Airport and more than 250 other airports.
Coloradans have already been able to save their Colorado Digital ID in the app, but now they can also add the myColorado Mobile Driver License, also known as mDL, to be used as ID at an airport.
The two are separate credentials, and only the mDL can be used to get through TSA checkpoints.
How do I use the myColorado app to get through security at the airport?
Travelers should log into the app prior to any trip to take the steps to add the Mobile Driver License because you need to take a photo of your physical ID.
At the airport checkpoint, travelers will use a QR code and have a live photo taken to verify their identity.
“The myColorado mDL leverages international identity verification standards to allow seamless, privacy-focused screening without the traveler having to hand over their physical ID, boarding pass or smartphone,” according to a news release from Gov. Jared Polis’ office announcing the development.
The myColorado app also lets Coloradans add vehicle registrations, titles, insurance cards, Colorado Parks and Wildlife licenses, and more so they can be available on demand using digital access.
